Windward is proud to announce the successful conclusion of this project, which provided mitigation for natural resource damages and alleviated the unavoidable impacts of a Sound Transit project on nearby wetlands. Over the course of a decade, Windward was able to both restore and enhance local fish and wildlife habitat. We improved salmon spawning and rearing habitats, created additional wetland areas, enhanced the functions of the existing wetlands, and restored native plant communities. This year saw the final monitoring for the enhancements, which are now well established and thriving.
December 2009: At the beginning of the planting phase, the impacts of recent construction were stark.
April 2019: After 10 years of careful monitoring and cultivation, the site is healthy and capable of providing habitat for spawning salmon and other wildlife.
